We retain our link with Dudley College where we hire outdoor space to work and store stone.
The original Shapeshifter group were students of the late John Tonks, a Vice President of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, who was an inspirational teacher and a nationally recognised Sculptor. On his retirement the group continued to meet and enrolled at Dudley College in 1999. They completed courses in fine art and sculpture which brought the Shapeshifters into contact with Andy Perks and the master carver John Vaughan.
Most members work in stone and a few in wood. Our members are often retired people with a wide range of skills, often with a technical or arts background. A common thread is the enjoyment of making things. We are fortunate to have access to a stock of stone sourced from quarries (Ancaster and Hoptonwood) as well as stone from demolitions, largely Portland limestone. Members can buy stone at preferential rates.
