About Us
Selly Oak
Selly Oak

Our members are often people with unusual employment days, and retired people who are free on a weekday. Others come to Dudley on the 3rd Saturday of the month. We work from 10am til about 4pm, with breaks for coffee and lunch.

Members have a wide range of skills, often with a technical or arts background (engineer, toolmaker, gardener, jeweller, lawyer, stained glass artist, stone waller, GP, lace maker among others!). A common thread is the enjoyment of making things.

We mostly work in stone or wood (ass. Members work in ceramics and glass). We are fortunate to have access to a stock of stone (hopton wood, ancaster, and architectural relics). We use wood from old trees and furniture.

Many members have done short courses in fine art, sculpture and stone carving. There are many carving courses around the country lasting a few days or a week, a great way to start your new venture! We support with hints and tips, but we do not teach.

We exhibit as a group from time to time at the RBSA, and individual members exhibit at the Jinny Ring, Showborough, the Purple Gallery and other venues.
